Hello my name is Amy Powell, and I love learning. Over the past two decades I have attended a variety of courses in art, personal development, enterprise and facilitation.
In 2024 I completed a year-long coaching programme with the Make Happen Institute. This supported the MA Creative Practice students in developing and sharing their work.
Being surrounded by creatives in the studio is where I’m most happy. Since graduating from my Fine Art degree in 2014 I’ve made art education accessible to the local community by running face-to-face and online art groups. The purpose of these is to loosen the hold of negative self-talk and pressure-to-achieve so that people can play with art materials joyfully.
The next stage in my work is helping those with creative practices get their work out into the world. I understand how scary this can be, swinging from excitement to despair, and running the range of other emotions in-between.
I have an understanding of mental health challenges from working as a support worker and navigating my own emotional health. A key part of my recovery has been attending peer-support groups and I want to be able to use my experiences to help others. It can be hard to recognise what stops us from taking action and being out in the world. When we’re part of a supportive group we can learn from each other and get a new perspective.
